Popular Post TobaccoRoad Posted May 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 31, 2021 Box check and review on a Juan Lopez Seleccion #2 from a box I received back in early March. Since I mostly quit drinking alcohol back in 2017 to show solidarity with my older brother and some close friends who were all forced to quit drinking due to health/personal reasons. I have typically paired my cigars with water or Adam's Ale as we used to call it down here in the Bible Belt. But for this review requiring a pairing with a beverage, I decided to pop open one of my wife's first batch of homemade ginger beer. The cigar is gorgeous. Beautifully crafted with a firm pack and a light sheen to the wrapper. A straight cut produces a surprisingly easy draw for such a firmly packed cigar. The first puff and I'm hooked. Perfect combination of tobacco, nuts, spice and that cuban twang that I crave. I'm already wishing I bought more than one box. The ginger beer is actually a really nice pairing. It's not as sweet as the commercial versions that I've tried and has a yeasty taste to go with the spicy ginger. The combination of the lingering spice of the ginger and the sweet tang of the retrohale is awesome. The cigar remains spot on. Construction is immaculate with plenty of smoke and is very forgiving of my sometimes erratic puffing. The flavors deepen as I progress and I get a little wood and coffee to go with the great tobacco core flavor. To say that I am pleased with the box check is an understatement. I'm not familiar with the GRM box code so I'm assuming it's one of the provincial factories. I tip my cap to them as this was a properly blended and constructed cigar. I'd love to see what 5 years of age would do for this box but it is highly unlikely that any of these will survive that long. They are right in my wheelhouse now and I intend to discover if the whole box are this good. I rate the cigar as a solid 91 and two thumbs up for the pairing with ginger beer. 14
