Beautiful Boxes, Artisans and Craftsmen

I look forward to seeing Rob's posts of Beautiful Old Boxes. Recently he highlighted one chock full of blue and yellow hues that were just gorgeous, not to mention the intricate details found in the design work. It got me thinking about a documentary short I'd seen several years back about hand drawn signs and lettering from a bygone era.

Even if you're not a fan of John Mayer, you might enjoy this look at the skill, creativity, and craftsmanship of David Smith, a traditional sign artist/craftsman and what went into the album cover design for Born & Raised. It reminds me of of the design and art that we see on these older boxes and provides beautiful insight into the work and skill employed. Grab a cigar and enjoy.
