Çnote Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 I had never heard of this brand until 'getting into' CC. Everyone has heard of RyJ, MC, Cohiba. The few times I purchased as young American in Europe, this was the trio of brands presented, so that's what I got. Fast forward to now, I see the love of Hoyo in the forum, so I get a couple of boxes off 2424. Ignore the burn line, wind, humidity, and a cracked foot are all against me as I nurse this along. It bangs along with gingerbread and baking spice, something I remember from others in this box. It's all delicate on the back, upfront toasted tobacco just coming into creamy richness. Construction is great, I can see my tiny puffs work as the burn line slowly corrects to something simply jagged as opposed to serrated. It's not entirely successful as i do have to sacrifice a 1/4" vertical strip of wrapper to fix it and I get some ashfall. The PR revs into gear as expected; sweet nicotine tar in the back, ginger tea cut with halfnhalf. The creaminess is further accentuated with the drops of coffee stained condensed milk sludge in the bottom of my cup. Mention this combination so that I may remember it and as a favor to whomever doesn't TLDR, I have nothing else to do today. The burn line never quite corrects due to wind, but I see the poor thing trying as I slowly suck the life out of it. The band is glued tight and it really has been a slow cold smoke so far, heating it is an unfortunate necessity as I'm not a Saudi prince. I'm forced to pick apart the band like an animal and I realize that it's soft and underfilled in a couple of pockets and I accidentally crack the wrapper in the soon to be nub area, alas! Whatever construction allowances i was making are taken back, hsa qc is just an 8-8 team, I guess that's 8-9 now? I continue to nurse this though the soft patches which is probably for the best as it shows monolithic but powerful ginger overlaid on fresh dairy. Yum. It's slow going as I'm actually letting it rest on the stand and cool significantly between small shallow puffs and not trying to correct the diagonal burn line. Delicious as this is and contrary to my wishes, I'm forced to crack a plug and perform surgery with flame. I'm rewarded with intense spice bordering on toasted cocoa, a trace of unexpected coconut and the flamed orange zest that I associate with 'twang.' A nub like this reminds me that I don't have a perfectdraw and the large ring gauge will defy my usual tricks to make it last. I could also use more coffee or at least something over than water to enjoy this; 1st world problems abound as the sun gets in my LOS as well. The nub. The nub! Reading about the nub will ruin your next cigar. It's glorious, a reward for making it this far. Sound and fury incarnate, just enough strength to show the delicate flavors. It's really good, quite fine, etc. Anything I type is droll. Go smoke a cigar. Pick something good! I give this a 9/11 on my new 11 point ⚖ that reminds me that ratings are overrated and substantially non-communicative. 2
