Popular Post Bijan Posted February 15, 2021 Popular Post Posted February 15, 2021 My son had a late second nap today so I had a chance to smoke at a less ungodly hour. Went on a long walk in the snow with my wife and my son in the stroller during his afternoon nap. Weather this afternoon was warm for this weekend, at just over -1C 30F. Nice and sunny. And good exercise pushing the stroller on the snowy trails up and down hills. Had some demi-sec Veuve Clicquot champagne (that's the only sweet champagne available in all this province, thank you government monopoly, and even that's been out of stock for a month) and heart shaped pizzas for lunch afterwards. And back to the cigar. Cigar was just over official weight. Went with a 9mm punch, and didn't use the perfecdraw. Those choices were not that great. Draw was ok, but a bit too snug. First third: First few puffs of ash flavour... But then settles to plain dry earth. Some cedar later on. Charcoal but without the RyJ cherry and then leather. Second third: Hints of cherry here and there, at times very sweet. Still earth but not as bitter. Some savoury flavour I can't put my finger on, tingly like the tarragon of last night's cigar but definitely different. Final third: That flavour builds up and I can name it. Seems like eucalyptus. Joined later on by menthol. An hour and ten minutes to the nub, though in the first half all the more bitter flavours were making me puff way too fast (this happens to me with cigars with these flavours, especially if there's nothing sweet to balance it out). Slowed down in the second half though. Weather was -8.7C, 16F and very little wind. 70-80% humidity. Was going to give the cigar 3/5 at first but it redeemed itself, and hit just under 4/5 by the end. From my memory the last cigar from this box was actually quite sweet, a sort of Ex 4 in Lonsdale format. This one was decidedly not sweet. 14
mprach024 Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 Happy Valentines to you and your family brother and nice review again. I’ve smoked lots of these as they serve a good purpose for me. I rarely ever get that sweet flavor with these you mentioned. Just loads of mongrel/mushroom, tobacco, leather, and earth/dirt. Usually all in one lump of a flavor that’s not too terribly interesting, but I also never get a flavor that’s a turn-off (key point). So for me these are brainless cigars that are great when you need to satisfy any nicotine or oral fixations without the setting to appreciate other cigars or can’t focus on them. Golf, fishing, hiking, (walk thru the woods like you did), etc etc, perfect for that. I did have one this passed summer that reminded of an Ex4 with that burnt red fruit sweetness, was fantastic, but haven’t seen it since. For the price and availability they are a good deal and the vitola is always welcome. 1
