Popular Post Akela3rd
Only three of these left but why not indeed...?I had a box of these when their discontinuation was announced and managed to get a couple more shortly after. Not that they are that special but they are always a decent cigar, reliable. And the TOS code generally garnered a good reputation for taste and construction at the time. The wrapper on this has lost it's former sheen over the years but feels in good condition and the draw is spot on. The smell on the foot retains it's familiar faint barnyard. On lighting the initial impression is of almond, slight pepper and freshly cut wood. The ash is dark and dense as usual with these. Not a lot changes as it progresses but it's good - subtle flavours, nothing too dominating and well balanced between the smooth almond/marshmallow and the spicy wood. The burn is good throughout with little wobbles that correct themselves without getting out of hand. The only real development during the cigar is a slight upping of strength moving from below to above medium. Into the final third the spice element seems to refine itself to a nutmeg or cinnamon feel rather than the harsher black pepper. It's a subtle undercurrent with the smoother overtones being the main attraction. Overall then, very pleasant and I'd say at four years they're just about right. Two left and I'm not sentimental so those might not see the year out. Score : a resounding thumbs up.
