JR Edicion Limitada Alternative (FTRW)

Recommended Posts

If I ever had to come up with the worst cigar I've ever smoked, this would be it. I recall ordering from JR back when I started getting into cigars, but never considered buying any of their "Alternatives." My neighbor on the other hand is apparently enthralled by them. He handed this to me a couple months ago saying that they are very good and one of his favorites. I put it in one of my tupperdors and honestly didn't think I'd ever smoke it. Since giving it to me, my neighbor has periodically asked me if I've smoked it and what I thought about it. This weekend I couldn't decide what to smoke and thought "why the hell not?" The construction wasn't bad, but I didn't get anything for flavor. This cigar was by no means small and I smoked around half of it without a single flavor note. It was like puffing air through a straw, and I chucked it shortly after the second picture below. It was so bad that I even considered the possibility that I had COVID-19 and lost my sense of taste and smell. Luckily it was a bad cigar and not me.

I looked up what the cigar was supposed to be and based on size I think they are marketed as a Cohiba Sublime or Cohiba Behike Laguito No 6 alternative. Whatever it was supposed to be, it ended up being a thoroughly unenjoyable cigar.

0 on my 0/1 scale.

When I was in my first year of school in NC, JR cigars was 10 minutes from where I lived. I was new to cigars and split a bundle of JR Alternatives with some friends. It was some sort of Churchill. It may have been $30 for 20 smokes. I was new to cigars but still quickly recognized how outright awful they were. I recall deciding to soak the rest in lighter fluid and setting them on fire, because college.
