Juan Lopez seleccion no.2 UTL SEP 19 (MC2020RW)

Think both JL's are consistently good, so while this is for a No.2, I'm sure I'll also review a No.1 in a couple days! 

Did a hole punch and draw was good, a bit of resistance on the pull.  These are actually somewhat fresh - arriving about a week and a half ago so I'm not expecting a great burn as they probably haven't full acclimated yet.

Had a nice rich nutty sweetness in the first third right off the bat.  Cigar is really smooth with no spice or anything in the retro.  Actually tried my best Prez impression and did 100% retro a few times...I still have a ways to go for that though haha.  Towards the end of the third, there's still the sweetness but the nuttyness has changed to a grassy/hay flavor.  Burn is a tad wonky but didn't require any correction

In the second third of this cigar, I've started to get more of a woody/cedar note.  Still really smooth with no spice or pepper.  Start getting floral notes which is really nice and what I've come to expect from the JL cigars.  It goes into a toasty nutty flavor with some sourdough/twang notes that keep the cigar interesting!

Last third had a nice toasty tobacco flavor that is pretty consistent throughout the last portion of this cigar.  Fast forward maybe 5 min and I started getting some bitter notes that I'm attributing to youth?  Cigar is just over a year old so I'm thinking these can benefit from some age.

 

All in all the cigar was very enjoyable and if I'm not really in the mood to try a new cigar, I'll reach for these JL's for a consistent smoke that I know I'll enjoy.  Burn time was a little over a hour.  I'll give it a 7.5/10.
