Popular Post maverickdrinker Posted October 27, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 27, 2020 First ThirdThere is something about old tobacco that has been stored well that is just magical. Crisp Cuban twang, interlaced with brown sugar, leather, earth, cedar and a touch of eucalyptus start is on our journey. Strength is at a medium bodied level. The retrohale is perfectly balanced. Light cedar, earth, leather and a hint of eucalyptus move easily through the nasal passages. The after finish is a joy to experience. Earth, leather, light cedar and eucalyptus lead the way. Milk chocolate, candied ginger and brown sugar, with a touch of oolong tea complete the back end. Seductive as the flavours gently coat the palate. This is really nice.... Second ThirdStrength picks up to the upper reaches of medium bodied. Didn’t see that coming. The flavour become richer with the addition of expresso that joins cedar, leather, earth and eucalyptus as they move through the nasal passages. The after finish is heightened with the pick up in strength and addition of expresso to the mix. Richer layers of cedar, leather, expresso and earth form the front end. Eucalyptus, light cinnamon, oolong tea, with accents of candied ginger and brown sugar form the back end. Flavours are more precise with the pickup in strength. Makes you settle in and slow down between draws to fully appreciate the flavour profile. Final ThirdOolong tea moves to the front of the line, tempering expresso, earth and leather in the retrohale. Graceful as it moves through the nasal passages. The after finish is a surprise ending. Oolong tea, earth, leather and light touches of expresso in the fore front. Brown sugar, light cedar, candied ginger and touches of eucalyptus and cinnamon form the back end. Beautiful complexity and nuance through the cigar that comes to a crescendo in this final third. Wonderful. Final Impressions Three distinct flavour profiles in one cigar. Impressive complexity and nuance in a small package. A delight to smoke. The strength levels were surprising, particularly in the second third, given the age. Still full of life at this stage and can continue to develop over time. The only disappointment is that this vitola has been discontinued. Hopefully, there comes a day where they re-emerge so future cigar smokers can enjoy this treasure.
