Popular Post Zaxeiler Posted October 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted October 11, 2020 Up in the 'thumb' of Michigan off of Lake Huron for vacation, and of course, had to bring a few sticks along to enjoy the view. Smoked the Romeo y Julieta Cedros De Luxe No. 3, a Petit Corona 5 x 42. It was an unknown date or box code (from a sampler trade) but from around 2017/2018. I don't know if I'd consider these fully 'under the radar', but there are so many RyJ options, I don't always get a clear picture of individual sticks. So I was excited to try one of their many smaller smokes. Aroma brings hay but a nice touch of warm chocolate too. The foot adds a bit of clove and classic fermented tobacco. Cold draw is very surprising, honey and cinnamon. Initial puffs open with a lot of cedar and a subtle hint of the chocolate we smelled. The cigar has some very small, but consistent tooth. Settling into the first third, getting creamy chocolate with a hint of stone fruit. Still cedar on the retro. Approaching the middle third, we’re split with even parts cedar (back up front), a milk chocolate (taste, mouth feel is still kinda dry, not like the PLPC), and cherry. Halfway through, it’s alternating between cedar and cherry or milk chocolate, but never settles into an elusive mix of all three. The only place all three kind of come together is in the retro, which seems to soften the cedary cherry from the cream influence. The back third transitions to chocolatey cedar. So funny how this stick has danced around and rotated those three flavors. Nub territory leans in creamier, but retains the same profile. This guy was an ugly burner, three canoes that needed touch up. Light tooth on the wrapper. Draw is perfect and smoke output good. 3.5/5 for me. I don't love cedar, and while it was relatively mild, it was consistent throughout as a pairing to all other flavors. Did really enjoy the cherry and the milk chocolate. In some ways, it has a drier mouthfeel than the PLPC, but when creamy, reminded me of it with cherry added. 6
DeskSmkr Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Enjoyed reading your review, thank you. Beautiful scenery with the green grass, gentle waves on the water, and clear blue sky. 1
mprach024 Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 Very nice, as one of the few (or only?) other guy on this forum that’s been to Thumb I can attest to its beauty and tranquility. Port Austin might have some the prettiest sights in the state. Enjoy your time you’ve got a great weekend of weather to enjoy the scenery and colors. 1
Zaxeiler Posted October 11, 2020 Author Posted October 11, 2020 Thank you both! Great trip so far. And on the FOH side of things, still have a Trinidad and spare PLPC to get to (along with some NCs). Cheers! Happy Sunday all!
