DeeBeezy Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 i have noticed only recently that a few of my boxes are developing tiny white dusting?mould on some of the cigars, why is this happening and how can i prevent?
CaptainQuintero Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Mould needs high humidity and temperature so essentially you need to remove one or the other. If you store at 65%rh you shouldn't run into any issues as long as you run a passive system. What's your set up?
DeeBeezy Posted June 22, 2020 Author Posted June 22, 2020 I’ve been steady at around 68/69%. could be as a result of warmer weather in London recently but they are in a dark closet.
El Presidente Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 That rising london temp is ever so slightly changing the balance in your humidor. Wipe down and insert a few Boveda 65 packs.
DeeBeezy Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 Thank you is the difference between 68 and 65 very drastic?
CaptainQuintero Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 In the UK I find that the packs run a little over when it's summer so the 68s might be drifting up to near 70% and that's where mould starts to be a risk. It's been hitching humid recently too. You will most likely notice a difference in taste and not having to relight when you make the switch. If you've a tupperware you can experiment with a few, 65 and 60 etc to see if you prefer one or the other. You possibly have to give at least a good month for them to adjust.

Enough to make a difference in your cigar storage/smoking experience. Also depends on where you live but you will notice a decent RH drop if you do this. It wont be immediate as the cigars need to acclimate to that RH but its worth doing.
