Popular Post RDB Posted May 31, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 31, 2020 So LGR code... some great Por Laranaga, all those wonderful San Cristobal, and good Monte too. Plus these fine Punch 48 and others. This one is a looker. Full colorado, nice even wrapper, no spots or veins. I imagine it developing that lovely smooth leather look with age. Goldilocks draw. The burn needs a little touching up to keep it even, but I’m smoking outdoors in breeze. Long ash - nearly made it to the LCDH band before falling. Straight away we have a rich and flavoursome smoke. This is more on the woody, pastry side of things rather than the exotic sweetness of the best Punch Punch. It’s a little more middle-of-the-road perhaps. I kept looking for peanuts, but honestly I didn’t really feel that (in a way that I always do with the Double Corona). What I did get was a consistent richness, almost like an oiliness, or the butter in slightly sweet short crust pastry. The complexity is in the woody tones: it developed a sappy quality that eventually became quite spicy. Not hot pepper, but more like a green pepper - makes me think of north Indian curries now. Increasingly savoury. The strength built significantly into the last third until it became pretty serious. A good night watch cigar. This one accompanied Moby Dick and the moonlight. Score a clear 1 (on the binary scale). By the way I like this format, and it’s a ‘useful’ vitola for Punch, in a different register from the PPP and DC. Worth a box if you like either of those. 10
Monterey Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 Funny, I never get peanuts from a punch dc, but get a lot with the 48. Both are amazing cigars though.
MigsG Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 I agree with the LGR box code for the Punch 48, just went through a box.

I think there's a lot of variation in how we individually experience and describe flavours, and I'm always a bit wary of the mega-detailed tasting notes for this reason. If you ask 'what is the cigar with most X flavour' then after a few dozen replies you've generally got all the marcas covered...
