Popular Post CampDelta369 Posted May 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2020 Juan Lopez No. 2 TPO FEB 19 Easily the darkest wrapper in my Habanos stack. Some medium tooth with a slight sheen. 1/3: starts out floral and earthy notes with unsweetened Dark coffee and significant black pepper on finish. Construction and burn are very good yielding ample smoke. Some woods and slight creaminess flesh it out. 2/3: smoking well with thick smoke and even burn. Not much change here with the earth and woods competing for domination. The initial big spice pepper is in decay. 3/3: intensity and bitters grow towards band and the enjoyment is gone. I feel these can age for a decade and I hope this dark box mellows out in the coming years. An 88 for now A near perfect day here at 77F and sunny. The Yard Bird was prepped with garlic, paprika, onion, salt. 20 min on a MED heat grill and pulling at 160F at the bone. Served with grilled zucchini and buttered corn and peas. A special day deserves special wine. A 2009 Pommard Burgundy. Cheers. 12
Deeg Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 That's easily the darkest JL I've ever seen. Sounds like it tasted like it looked. 1
Smalls Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Nice review. It prompted me to take a look at a box I have from 2013. The box has a good bit of variation in wrapper color, but none are nearly that dark. I remember them needing some age for my preferences when I smoked a young one. I need to pull one out and check how they are progressing. It has been too long. 1
