Popular Post GVan Posted May 2, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 2, 2020 Stogie Steve and I have been discussing how the Florida humidity impacts the taste of the cigars we smoke. At times we get outside humidity around 80+ % and it can be frustratingly difficult to keep your cigars lit and burning correctly. I've taken to dry boxing them at 52% RH for several days too two weeks to compensate. Today was one of those "perfect days" 81 deg's F and 48% humidity. So, for the weekend challenge a PLPC (second one out of the box) right out of the humi that I keep at 64% RH - no dry boxing. Pre-light: Construction average, medium light wrapper, some small veins, firm feel to the roll, foot ok, nice dimple below the cap after I carefully removed a small stem - First Picture. Cold draw: medium draw, taste of light toast and hay, some minor sweetness which I really like. No ammonia or vegetal taste like the first one out of the box. First Third: Second Picture - Really smooth, getting that light toast taste, a slight sweetness probably honey, unfortunately - none of that caramel yet that PLPC's are famous for producing. Vey light smoke production from a medium firm draw but not a bother. Really enjoying this! Second Third: Smoke production ramps up and draw becomes easier. Trying to smoke this real slow - causes one relight and two burn touch-ups. Still really smooth with the same light toast flavor and the honey becoming more predominant. An occasional taste of cedar sneaks in and out but, really, one of the best CC's that I've had in the past few weeks. At $4.60 per CC (from a 50 box) this is a real steal of a cigar and I think about buying more for the Humi and long-term storage. Final Third: Last Picture - The honey sweetness leaves and the toast becomes stronger as well as the cedar. Still no bitterness. Smoke production still high and I try and take smaller puffs to keep cool. Rarely do I smoke a cigar down to the nub. Usually, I stop just after reaching the final third as the heat picks-up. I put the cigar down to finalize my thoughts -- but, keep picking it up for one more puff! Final Thoughts: I have not yet had these reach the caramel bombs FoH Members talk about but, I can taste the potential. I've seen several members smoking 2017's already but, I think while this was very good it will be great with a little more age (and patience from me). Total smoke time was 1 hour and 35 minutes; not bad for a PC. Also, I normally smoke my CC's after dinner and this was in the middle of the day with perfect outside conditions as I discussed earlier. Overall, 89 to 90 points with 90+ potential in a few years. Really do have to buy some more ..... 13
StogieSteve23 Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Great review! The weather has been spectacular here the last few days with minimal humidity.
