Partagas Serie D No.4 UAO OCT 19 (R90)

D4s are probably the most abundant stick in my collection. I was excited to see EL put out some D4s so I snagged a box when they showed up on 24:24. When they arrived I was blown away by the smell, wrapper shade, and construction. I could tell this was a truly special box. I waited a couple months before diving in. The last D4 I had was about a month ago from 2014. It was a 91. So, I figured what better time to try out this stick for the review comp.

I used a punch and the draw was perfect. If I used a straight cut it may have been on the looser side. Cold draw brought out some sweet tobacco flavor.

The first puff I had was unlike any other D4 I’ve had. Much creamier and sweeter than other partagas. The first third was dominated by a spiced cream on the sweeter side. Very nice

The second third was still creamy but with a sweet bread note. Almost no spice In this third. I can’t believe this cigar is only six months old. No bite at all. If I smoked this blind I wouldn’t have guessed D4.

The final third showed its youth a tad. Still sweet notes but woodier. Cream pops it’s head in every few puffs but not as dominant as the first two thirds.

Overall I don’t think I’ve had a partagas this sweet before. It was a tremendous pleasure to smoke. Not sure if it’s because the weather was much nicer this go around or if it’s because of the EL Factory, but this was possibly the best D4 I’ve ever had. Truly a stand out. Can’t wait to see what the rest of this box has in store. 94/100.
