El Presidente Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 On my way back from Miami to LA before connecting to Brissy. 20 to go. Can I say how much of an improved airline American Airlines is? They are a One World partner airline (with Qantas) and so in this part of the world I use them where possible. They use to be abjectly woeful but they have certainly lifted their game over the past decade from service to lounges etal. Kudos! Hamlet was regaling us on mostly crap Sunday. It as a long working day commencing at lunch and finishing 2am. Hammy is a deep reader and he had some gems. I vouch for none of these being correct OK = Zero Kills. British Military would use the sign to signal all was good. AOK F#U#C#K# = For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. In earlier religious days, , sex out of wedlock was forbidden and to have sex out of wedlock was euphemistically referred to as F**K. However, the acronym became a word, which in turn became a vulgar word, despite the fact that it was designed to avoid vulgarity. He was on fire! Wait until I tell you about the male Cuban tiger and the analogy of stripes......GOLD! It is going to be a long flight 3

IanMcLean68 Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Fornication Under Consent of the King was another one. However, all these etymologies have been debunked. English words that have their origin from acronyms is mostly a thing from the 20th century and beyond, but the F-word itself can be traced back as far as the 15th century, and is likely of Germanic origin. 1
