Partagas Presidente 2018 (PPPRW)

This one came from the FOH 2018 Christmas Sampler.  Although I’m a general fan of the Partagas lineup, it’s the first time that I’ve smoked this cigar.

gave it a clean v cut, checked the draw – nice draw, feels like it’s well constructed, tastes of cedar with a hint of sweetness – almost like carmel?

first third opened nicely with pleasant forward notes of paprika and some leather, light bodied, lots of smoke production

 

second third transitioned into somewhat of a blended paprika herbaceousness, hints of leather with nice tastes of old school partagas showing up in the mix – really nice.  Still light bodied +.   If I smoked it too fast, I’d get an herbal dryness that detracted from the good flavor profile

 

last third, began with more of the classic old school Partagas blended flavors coming forward, still light-medium bodied.  Then, in the last quarter it suddenly became bitter and tar tasting.  I tried trimming more off the head further to see if that would help, but to no avail…had to let it go.  Maybe a little more age would have taken care of this?  ...I really wanted to smoke this one to the nub

 

I haven’t smoke any Partagas in a while due to my smoking a variety of other CC brands.  Makes me wonder what took me so long to come back?
