Popular Post Akela3rd Posted December 31, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 31, 2019 Sitting under cover in cold slight drizzle on the last day of the year. This cigar's from a box I've had a year or so and I actually had the first one yesterday and it wasn't great, underfilled and dry tasting but I thought I'd give it a go again today and what a difference... Nice wrapper, box press, lovely sheen, definitely more weight than yesterday's. The draw is firm but good, very different from yesterday's wind tunnel and straight away there's a lemon zest on the tongue. I remember picking out lemon sherbets as a tasting note on a M5 a couple of years ago and this is exactly that. Quite dominating actually. Settles nicely to a melted chocolate with just a hint of zing. Dark dark ash. Medium strength, full flavour. 2/3 Deep cocoa, rich silky smoke and still that undercurrent of lemon, quite delicate at times, more prominent at others. Really satisfying. 3/3 Slightly wobbly burn throughout but nothing to be concerned about, no touch ups or relights. The flavours remain swirling around each other - chocolate and lemon, slight woodiness underneath and it's all good. I'm glad I decided to try another, I wasn't enjoying the thought of a box full of duds, but only time will tell what the rest will be like. Here's hoping... Score : 364/365 Sent from 47171 Lempo 8

Whenever one reaches for a second Montecristo No.4 from a box within a short time period...well, you know you've hit upon a winner there! 1
joey rockets Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 I recall my first Monte #4 right out of the box as something that failed to impress? And the next several, in fact most of the top row, were pretty much duds in one way or another and this box was pushed to the rear of the humidor. I no longer have this box because when I returned to it many months later it had undergone a transformation and I started to catch a clue on the true profile of Montecristo. 1
