Popular Post HuffnPuffff Posted December 28, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 28, 2019 So I developed jar blindness last year and went on a cashola spraying spree during the 18/19 winter months as the birth of my third child got closer. I have too many fountain pens and that seemed like a good excuse to recycle cigars jars into storage devices for these outdated pens. Go figure. So the Partagas jar with the P2’s show up and after the requisite acclimatisation period they are AMAZING. I do the same with the ELDM and I am hit with massive underwhelm. Honestly, I don’t know the brand well and I like stronger cigars. First one was like smoking air. Second had a light menthol twang in the second third but I was pretty drunk. So for this review (no 3 out of a jar of 19) I tried something new. Morning smoke in the sun with some LongJin tea from Hangzhou (I usual only smoke during the hours of darkness with alcohol - typically beer or white wine). It was a crystal clear day on the harbour front in Hong Kong (thank you public viewing garden above the ferry terminal that no one knows about). Lovely looking cigar once I had busted all the unnecessary bands off it and stripped it naked. Fantastic wrapper with sheen, and Penelope Cruz/ Antonio Banderas hue. Good looking head and foot after the cut; perfect draw and good aromas at cold. With the sun balming everything in a warm sunny beam and 22C, light shimmering off the water and a few skyscrapers, this started off with a light tasty tobacco taste. The tea was an inspired pairing, with a light nuttiness and gentle throaty depth. I flip flopped between listening to the Economist’s end of year wrap-up podcast and harbour viewing; meanwhile this smoke was a steady eddy of slowly building flavours whilst always remaining light and cheery. Construction and smoke output were perfect. Burn slight tilting to starboard but not egregiously so. All in all, a very pleasant morning cigar in the sun in amazing surroundings. Would I trudge out into the cold to smoke this in February in London - no. Would I buy these again - no, as they don’t fit my normal smoking pattern. But did I enjoy this tasting - hell yeah . Adios 2019 - hello Partagas 2020!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 5
