This is a cigar I pulled from the humidor after many years of rest there. It was '07 or '08 when I was gifted this cigar and I was told at the time it had at more than a couple of years on the box code, probably early 2000s. I have only enjoyed one other Unicos from my memory and the experience wasn't one that left me leaping to look for a box. 

The wrapper is a darker colorado in color and construction seems to be good, no soft spots noted. The aroma prelight is intoxicating, the typical barnyard with honey sweetness. I clip the cigar at an angle and test the draw. The draw is VERY easy, no wind tunnel, but very little resistance. As soon I light the cigar the first flavor I notice is a rich, dark sweet flavor, with molasses being the closest to the mark. Smoke production is fantastic, it coats my tongue and the sweetness lingers. 

 

In the first third the cigar develops in flavor to include the a spice that is hard to pin down at first, but later I note as a lighter side of a chai spices, ginger, clove, caramom. A roasted coffee note mixes in but the dominant flavor in the cigar is a still the dark sweetness with these other flavors around the edges. The burn is fairly strait and the cigar holds an ash for quite a while before dropping 

In the beginning of the second third the coffee notes become more prominent with cream as well. Cafe au Lait! I reach the "damn, I should have gotten a box" point pretty quickly here. At about the halfway point the cigar does a flavor about face. The coffee notes leave abruptly and are replaced immediately with rich dark chocolate notes. I note that smoke and flavors are like Côte-d'Or Noir bar, velvety, rich, and bittersweet. This flavor profile stays with the cigar until I reach the end of the second third. The cigar has been a medium body for pretty much the whole way, at the end of the second third there is no change there. 

In the beginning of the last third the chocolate notes become a little calmer and the spice notes from earlier return with a little more boldness this time. Maybe it is the time of the year but I detect a little gingerbread in there too. Still an underlying dark, sweet flavor dominates the cigar. The last third is like a greatest hits of flavors in the first two. Coffee and coca notes, molasses, hints of dried berries, and touches of ginger and clove. What a fantastic smoke. 

Wow! This will hang in my memory so much more than my first experience with the Unicos for sure. The dark sweetness that was the backbone of the flavor profile for this cigar was outstanding. I have limited experience with this marca outside of a few Famosos and two outstanding Classicos I had some years ago. I live posted some of my notes here on a cigar Discord and someone noted that they thought the blend for this cigar had changed in or around 2013. I really hope this isn't the case. Outside of one notable experience I had with a PL Lonsdale earlier in the year, this has to be the second best cigar experience I had in 2019. Just WOW!
