Partagas P2 MSU OCT 17 (SMRW)

I've only had a few P2 from various samplers, and was never really wowed.  But picked up this box from a 24:24 clearance day several months ago, and was pleasantly surprised to find beautiful mottled wrappers that I would easily rate PSP/HQ.  They are two years old now and this is the first one out of the box.

Wrapper had a great spicy aroma.  Draw was perfecto.

First third is baking spices, cedar, and a little bit of cream.

Second third becomes tons of wet leather, very nice.  Unfortunately no more cream.  The baking spices become more savory, and there is a hint of black pepper which I generally do not like, but here it is good.  The finish is earthy, and leather, and twang with a spice that I consider Partagas DNA.

Pairing this with a ginger ale on ice and it is an excellent match.

The final third gets a bit funky and bitter, but nothing overly harsh.

Overall, this was easily the best P2 I've had.  Not very complex, but lots of great flavors.  And hands down some of the best construction I've had in a cuban, perfect burn and draw from beginning to end.  Really looking forward to seeing where this box goes over the years.

First review for the weekend!  I'm surprised you didn't get more out of it. Hopefully the next stick from that box will be better!
