Colt45 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Personally, I'd be interested to know what regions and/or vegas the tobacco came from. And also the ratios of primings used (along the lines of a wine guide). Volume of each cigar produced, what factories each are made in, etc. I don't know that this would be possible. The food/wine/drink pairings aren't a real interest , for me. Please, re-think the cover shot.
Shiba Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I personally would like to learn more on Factory codes.. or what there is to know about them... i.e. is one factory that produces Cigar A, better than another factory that produces that same Cigar A. It may be a long shot, but it is worth asking for :-D

dragon Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I think it sounds like a great idea for a book, and the format you mentioned sounds good too!
Ken Gargett Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 » » This is a labor of love for us. We have already got the cover shot (below) » but am stuggling to come up with the appropriate title ;-) bugger labour of love. provided i get paid, you can use whatever photos you like.
Guest crossbow Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 something intimate "Your Cigars:An Intimate View"
ALB Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Title: "Ken & Rob- A Labour of Love" the journey of 2 men as they.......... OK not going that line of thought anymore (I feel unclean & queasy)
raney Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 "Brokeback Smokers?" "How to Smoke (like) Men?" or the old standby: "Want some Candy?"
Mel Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I just had to read this before lunch didn't I? New cover or not book for me, sorry Ken I don't care how much you get paid. Date and box code should be included, sorry to you also Prez. We should know what is being reviewed. I mean you are disclosing the marca and vitola, right? My bet is that if Ken is really hiding those cigars as suggested the review will be the same form all the cigars--"Taste like ****".:-D Cigars are not exactly like wine and do not need a pairing with food or drink.
Ginseng Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Yikes. I had to go french the wife to reverse the shrinkage. You guys have to give me some notice if you're going to post stuff a la "Blue Boy" I'd like to see some photos of the rolling rooms and other associated production areas. Perhaps a quote or two from the people who make these things for us to enjoy.

I was just playing email tag with Lisa and I had to explain to her that all Americans do not suffer from the scourge that is Instant Gratification. Idea for a book sounds good. You might include regional releases. But as Mel stated skip the food pairings, taste is so subjective.
The Privateer Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Sounds like a wonderful project! Since there has been so much talk about date codes etc., you might consider having sections which deal with vertical tastings of certain benchmark vitolas from different years.
El Presidente Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 Mel. Box and Date codes will be included as well as Vitola. Habanos s.a will be able to give us forcast production numbers for that year. Ken and I will determine while in Havana whether it is possible to get accurate regionl information. I have a gut feel it will be difficult. Retrospective tastings will be done ie comparing a 2009 M4 with a M4 reviewed in 2005 (same box).
Maverick Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Rob, I would love to read in the book secrets and tips for tasting cigars. I have smoked a few cigars in my history but have never tasted or even been close to tasting the type of stuff that Ken craps on about. Why not have two reviews for each cigar, (1) A ken style review, e.g. Roasted Pig Fat and chocolate thistle flavour, and an idiots review (2) Nice cigar. Ross...

patrick Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Factory / Date codes and drink pairings would be awesome. Both alcholic and non drinks would be even better.

El Presidente Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Ken and I are commencing our Habanos rating /tasting gude while in Havana February. All going well we would hope to have it released and published this time next year. The book will be an inexpensive paperback tasting recent production cigars (2005/2006) and updated yearly or every two years. Again, recent productions only will be rated/tasted. The book will take the format of a wine guide. I thought it was opportune to ask FOH members what they would like to see in regards to format for the reviews...ie: Food matching? Drink/Wine matching? Date Codes Appendix showing follow up reviews of previous reviewed cigars i.e a 2006 Monte 4 in 2009? This is a labor of love for us. We have already got the cover shot (below) but am stuggling to come up with the appropriate title ;-) > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
rumrogue Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Sir, Could I respectfully request that you include those cigars you would recommend whilst driving a Holden V8 through the suburbs of Melbourne on the way to a footy match with St Kilda? We, that is the Pope & I, are hummungus fans of said automobile & footy team & one day see ourselves doing a Mad Max through the suburbs of Melbourne. He will ofcourse have to shed the mitre for the day, which will cause Him endless grief. He spends hours polishing it you know. Ever yours
