Descriptions about the outward appearance of cigars for sale suggest that great taste will follow great looks. Is taste/performance indeed predictable before lighting up? I have had "uglies" that smoked beautifully, and "beauties" that were so-so. What have your experiences with a cigar's appearance taught you?

Two things

  1. That thin wrapper with sheen delivers a superior result over a flat or thick sandpaper wrapper  8 out of 10 times.
  2. when choosing for themselves, people will purchase a box with sheen (regardless of shade) over a flat pale sheen free  box 9 out of 10 times.  the 10th time they didn't because they had been drinking ;)

I love those who say that they have no problem with fuglies. However, try selling a box of them when there is another box of the same cigar next to them shining like a 7pm Jezebel.

I suspect I smoke more ugly cigars than anyone here as 90% of what I will smoke at work/deck comes from the seconds draw. Some wonderful experiences indeed.

I must say if it were not for clearance many of us would not smoke Cubans...So with that said here's a big thank you to all the rollers that unknowingly help out the little guy .?

I have had some outstanding cigars that seemed to have been beat with an ugly stick and terrible cigars that looked like dimes. Mind you, I would not pick the ugly if I had a choice.
