CampDelta369 Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Juan Lopez #2 TPO FEB 19 CLR Inspired by FOH Dunking Video I did a side by side comparison on 2 marcas from same box at Humidor 67%RH 74F. Albeit two very young cigars. Unfortunately the experiment was not at all conclusive since I had a Firm construction vs a Light Fill which were the last 2 JL in the humidor. Expecting a wind tunnel on the loose fill I dunked it hoping to tighten it up a smidge? Well things went a bit off the rail after that... I had no intention of herfing two Robustos first thing in the morning so the plan was to smoke the first third of each then finishing the more flavorful at that point. The results surprised me a bit. To start, being a complete amateur to cigar dunking or hunting snipes for that matter. I dunked the wrong end in the bucket! Oh ya, I thought all was lost before I started. Apparently the loose fill drank up that water like a fire hose. It took only a second. I pulled it out watching and waiting for the foot to explode. Then I thought Grinch like quick, holding the foot to my bone dry cotton shorts the water got sucked back out as fast as it went in. I repeated this about seven times. There was an impressive bit of water up that straw that ended up on my shorts. Still I thought there can be no way it lights... Wrong again. After a slightly longer than usual toasting she lit quite normal and burned quite well. Again to my amazement I chose to finish the dunked cigar because it was more enjoyable than the normal one. In general a bit less spiciness and noticeably more creaminess in the first third. I also tasted more fruity sweetness in the first half. The Burn was quite good and produced a crazy amount of smoke. A botched experiment for sure and not a fair comparison but it makes me wonder about the other wind tunnels that I did not enjoy in the past. Is there salvation? Overall an 89 and a learning experience. Cheers Normal Humidity Cigar On LEFT Dunked cigar On RIGHT 2
BuzzArd Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 I’m not sure how much influence dunking would be have cigars kept at 67%rh. That’s pretty wet to begin with. Might try one of those against a dry boxed cigar and see if you note more of a difference.
CampDelta369 Posted July 27, 2019 Author Posted July 27, 2019 Agree @BuzzArd. The difference was small but made a poorly constructed cigar a bit more enjoyable in this case. I have a few lightly filled PLPC I might try this with.
Chucko8 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Well we have all had our times to shine!! Perhaps it might have been better to term it Drunking. Lol. You'll have better results next time for sure.
