Popular Post BuzzArd
A week or so I posted about a Cohiba box that I had passed on to a friend. He was concerned that the cigars may have been fake due to the lack of a UV visible number that was not present on the Cigar band. The thread discussing said Cigars can be viewed here. Today I had the opportunity to try one from a box that I had on hand (UAO) that did have the UV visible number and compare it to the box that I had given to him that did not (UEB). The day after I visited him and posted the above thread he commented that the cigars that I gave him (five additional sticks to make sure he was satisfied that I had not ripped him off) tasted far better than the ones he had had at his place. I wanted to see for myself. My box was UAO OCT 18 and his UEB JUL 18. In the following photographs his cigar is on the right, mine on the left. The one without the numbers has the sharpie marker stripe below where the numbers should have been This is the first time I have simultaneously smoked identical cigars and compared them. At cold mine had a pungent tobacco aroma. His had no discernable scent. I lit mine first. Immediately got a nice, dense smoke that did not have much Cohiba characteristic, but it did have a very pleasant taste. Smooth, with woodiness and very faint dried grass flavors. I got it going well and fired up his. His delivered a very floral aroma, some citrus and hay-like flavors I would describe as quintessential Cohiba. His ash was whiter, held longer and burned beautifully. My ash was darker and a bit more loose initially. Both burned perfectly, and both required a relight at the half. The UEB stick overall was far more Cohiba IMO. Maybe a few months of age explains it? Not sure. The UAO stick (mine) was still quite nice, but I’d happiy trade for that “suspicious” box on any given day, eapscially if all the amokes inside were cosistent with my example. Smoking time was about 35 minutes for both. I can only conclude that his box was indeed genuine Cohiba
