Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro Unknown (VVL)

March 20, 2019 – one hundred years since the birth of the Patriarch of Cuban tobacco and Cuban cigar, one of the most famous tobacco growers in the world - Alejandro Robaina.

Robaina - a Spanish emigrants who founded in 1845 a farm in the province of Pinar del Rio. Today, the family Robaina owns 22 acres of land, part of which is under cultivation of vegetables and grains. Under tobacco - 17 hectares. Farm Robaina gives about 10 percent of the total wrapping sheet of Cuba. The wrapper is an important component of the success of the whole cigar.

  Before the revolution 1959, the entire Robaina tobacco purchased by USA. Then the land was nationalized, but soon Robaina’s property was restored. Now the whole crop is purchased by the state at fixed prices and sends wrappers of Robaina to the best cigar factories in Cuba (El Laguito, Partagas).

  One of the Cuban cigar brands is named after Robaina - Vegas Robaina. It is classified as Habanos s.a. included in the "Golden five of Havanas": Cohiba, Cuaba, Montecristo, Trinidad, Vegas Robaina. Moreover, in honor of the great Alejandro, for his contribution to the development of tobacco culture, named one of the brand’s cigar - Don Alejandro. Alejandro Robaina was always happy to receive guests on his farm, treat them to their home cigars. He was always friendly, despite the large number of visitors. Thus we will remember him for many years of memory - a smiling and Sunny man, with a wrinkled face, like the leaves of noble tobacco.

Of course today I will smoke VR Don Alejandro. This is a cigar from FOH DC Sampler from 24:24, March 2018, unknown code and unknown year.

Aroma at cold: cedar&spices

1/3: A powerful start, a lot of smoke, a lot of body, this is rare in a large format, usually need time to warm up. Taste: wood, dark roasted malt, hop bitterness. I'd say it's like one of kinds of dark beer. A little discomfort due to the tannic aftertaste, but in the process of heating the taste gradually becomes softer. I refresh my mouth with cold water to remove the tannins. The room has a strong aroma of wheat bread with spices. I love this Cuban smell, it is inherent in San Cristobal, sometimes Trinidad.

2/3: here, the cigar has a woody-spicy taste. The aftertaste is sour and salty. Strenght is medium-high. Heavily roasted nuts appear in the background. Full body, full smoke. Powerful mixture. Suddenly emerged black pepper. I think with the years of aging it should disappear, and a young cigar it gives a savory taste. I try slow Smoking and pepper becomes softer, almost not felt. A return to deep puffs gives the taste of oak and pepper, very similar to RA Hermitage. Ash contains many minerals and breaks down with difficulty.

3/3: strength is high. Taste: oak wood and pepper. Atomic smoke, full body.

Conclusion: undoubtedly this is a young cigar that will age well. I smoked aged DA is a stream of dark caramel with spices. An outstanding cigar, it is a pity that its more not will in production. I hope all we'll be able to buy a box. I fluctuate between 4 and 5 stars, let it be 5/5.
