Gents and Ladies,

The golf season is still in full swing, at least in the southern part of the state.  I hope no one begrudges me an early start, as I did this review Thursday anticipating nasty weather and taking advantage of a work trip.  I don't usually prefer a robusto for golfing, but give the spirit of the weekend, I took an RASS along with me to the links. I appreciate this cigar more in the winter time and fall, but let's see how she stacks up to a spring breeze. 

Cold draw is burned toast, earth, and hay.  Wrapper feels a little toothsome, but there is a breeze, so that can't hurt (or so we think).  The cigar and I get off to a rough start, as I drop 2 straight holes to my playing partner.  Clearly that can't be my fault, but the cigar's, which requires more effort than one would assume to be normal to keep it going.  Knock in a 3 footer for bogey, reach for the torch, repeat on the next hole.  This thing is really taxing my lighter for some reason, as the wrapper/binder are on the fireproof side of things.  Flavors are solid, but smoke production is off.  Flavors are RASS, with earth and burnt toast dominating.  Many people say they get raisin but I feel like there's more of a stone fruit profile to the cigar that just builds through the body of the cigar. 

I'm battling the cigar tooth and nail through the second third, trying to keep it lit but for the life of me I can't get on top of it.  Stone fruit is the predominant flavor now when the smoke production is strong enough to let me enjoy this puppy.  I'm out of my rut on the course now, coming up to 1 over looking at a lengthy eagle putt on the 5th green.  Tap in birdie brings us back to even but the cigar has unfortunately gone out and is severely taxing my lighter at this point.  Stone fruit and toast, but not enjoyable because of the difficult experience.  We will soldier on however as a wait to tee off on 7 causes me to re-light this thing and try to salvage what's left of it.

 

Final third was not worth the trouble, but I'm determined to finish out the front 9 anyway.  Too bad I got aggressive on the 9th tee and tried to drive the green, hoping a slight helping breeze would carry me home.  It didn't, because I'm an idiot who would have been better served by hitting 5 iron.  My drive sailed wide left into a hazard, and I junked the cigar in disgust.  I hacked out for a double bogey, finishing the front nine with a 38.  The final legs of this cigar were disappointing.  Though still fighting to get smoke production, the thing produced a lot of heat, making it uncomfortable to hold.  Flavors were not terrible, but grew bitter at the end due to the excessive heat generated by constant puffing and re-lighting to keep her lit.  All in all, one of the worst RASS experienced I've had, though not one that I'd say was out of the ordinary given the box it came from.  I'd say 25% of them were fireproof, and this was just one of those bad ones.  Still, a day on the links with a cigar in hand is never wasted, and I fired up a hilariously fake Cohiba Piramyde on 10 that a co-worker joyously gifted me.  Best fake CC i've ever had, and blew the socks off the RASS.
