El Presidente Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Cuba reduces newspaper length due to paper shortage By Michael Weissenstein | AP April 4 at 2:51 PM HAVANA — The Cuban government says a newsprint shortage is forcing at least six state-run newspapers to cut back on pages and circulation days in a potent sign of the cash shortage confronting the island. The newspaper Granma said in Thursday editions that the Cuban Communist Party organ and several other papers are cutting back from 16 to eight pages on Wednesdays and Fridays. The changes take effect Friday. The newspaper of the Communist Youth League, Juventud Rebelde, will stop publishing on Saturdays Continue https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/cuba-reduces-newspaper-length-due-to-paper-shortage/2019/04/04/a66d7bb0-570a-11e9-aa83-504f086bf5d6_story.html?utm_term=.68d5d7ff0d97

GasGuy82 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I wonder if this is more directly related to the shut down of a primary paper processing facility in Venezuela? At some point I read an article that the shut down of this plant was leading to widespread shortages of toilet paper and newspaper (one in the same?) in Venezuela. Given the close ties between the two countries this may be a more direct correlation. Obviously, a secondary factor is no hard currency to purchase items from other places.

Paper in Cuba s often in short supply. On occasions, toilet paper is like gold. You will often find part rolls in hotels when you check in. things are really tough however when they have to cut back on the propaganda machine 2
Ritch Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Never fear. We have loads of newspapers in the UK they can have. None of us read them anymore as there has been nothing of interest in them for the last two years. They are just full of Brexit and Trump. Or Trump and Brexit. Or Trexit. Or Truxit. We are past caring. In or out. Let's toss a bloody coin and be done with it. Whilst we are at it let's get Cuba to write our news papers for us. We can finally hear about something else. Anything else. 1
