While in Havana I brought a nice little cigar case for petit coronas from one of the tourist markets. The case is nice and sturdy. However, it has quite a strong leather smell! It is slowly losing it but is there anything to encourage it along? I have tried baking soda which has helped a bit but it is still there and I worry about the smell impacting the cigars in the case.

Stuff newspaper inside and leave for a couple of weeks, change it over half way

How did you find this thread?

Lol. I searched Google for how to remove the strong leather smell from my cigar case. And this was the top result!

I also checked if the OP had logged in recently. 😊

That is either tenacious or obsessive :wink2:. Nah not really. It reduced a bit but I guess it's just curing/type of leather which retains a stronger smell. I just use it with tubos!

So update, I've had my case open, near the radiator for weeks now. The smell has reduced a lot. But still there. I'll close it up and see if it intensifies again.

Yeah, from my experience, there's not much you can do about it (to speed it up) other than leaving the case open when not in use. That's in fact the nice thing about quality leather that it never loses its fragrance completely. As long as you're just using it for carrying - what it's meant for - and keep cigars in it for just a couple of hours to a few days, it's not an issue really.

I always carry a couple of sticks with my working gear - always in tubes - so I just smoke them as it fits and don't need to care much about it.

I wouldn't worry about it much. Do the cigars taste like the case? Since you bought the cigar case in Havana, you are adding terrior to your cigars.
