Cigars in Mexico City and Italy (Upcoming travel)

Recommended Posts

Have my two best friends' weddings this year. Mexico City and one in the southern tip of Italy. I understand it's a bit expensive due to taxes to purchase in Mexico.... In any case, mex city must be fairly cigar friendly correct? Any must check spots for some more interesting pick ups?

I'll also be in Puglia in Italy which probably doesn't have anything in the realm of CC's, but I will be going to Lake Como to check our own wedding venue and flying out of Milan.....any places I need to check out around there?

I think 24:24 spoiled me. It's too competitive! (not a bad thing of course ; ))

Edward7,

In Mexico City, I always enjoy time at both Cigar Point in Roma Norte and also Cigar Bar Delegados in Polanco.  Cigar Point is above the trendy Mercado Roma, while Delegados is situated in the middle of Colonia Polanco on a street full of restaurants and bars.

Both have good selections and first class service.  I've attached some photos of both places. Nicholson photo of bar is Cigar Point.

The other awesome place also in Polanco is Casa Turrent.

Edward, there are several Habanos stores in Puglia - the official Habanos website has a Buy-Smoke section with an interactive map of locations around the world.  The Habanos Point store in Fasano called Tabaccheria DiBari Vitoantonio is run by some very nice people and has a good selection - I've been there a few times and the owner has been very helpful to a newcomer like me.  There is also one in Carovigno called Habanos Cafe Bar with a smaller selection, but also run by nice people, and some in Lecce as well.  There are also Habanos Specialist stores in Bari and Taranto.  Cigar prices in Italy are regulated by the government - you can find the official price list online - so prices should be the same anywhere you go.

Have fun - Puglia is one of the gems of Italy, but shhh - that's just between us, don't tell anyone.

Wow. Awesome. I think we are staying in Roma Norte so this would be perfect, so long as I can get the guys to join since my fiancé may not appreciate me burning an hour in there haha

Perfect. I’ll have down time in puglia since that’s where my friends wedding is and we will be there for 3 days. I’ve heard it’s a great city. Hopefully can find a flight into Brindisi or Bari.

Second to Delegados in CDMX! The best place.

You'll also find some cigars at Casa Turrent in Polanco (don't buy Cuban there, they're fake, but nice patio). And the LCDH *kiosk* is right near there. It's not a full store and no place to smoke, but it is legit.

Then you can smoke most anywhere outside. Hotel Condessa patio is bomb.

Duty free is outrageously expensive in MX.

Italy... has been nothing but a disappointment to me, cigar-wise, every time I've visited. BRING YOUR OWN.

Didn't know Casa Turrent had fake Cubans, good thing I've never bought one there. Thanks for that tip.  Yeah they're patio is nice.

My favorite is Delegados too actually, since I like Polanco.

Edward7, keep in mind the cigars won't be cheap at any cigar bar,  but that's because of Mexico import taxes.  If I remember correctly, that Diplo #2 cost me around $550-600 MXN pesos.

That’s ok! Being in California, I’m happy to pay whatever a nice lounge abroad will charge me since I’ll be buying singles from a large selection to enjoy on the spot. A luxury we don’t have here, as I tend to only buy boxes to consume from my own tupperdor.

Sounds like a great time to start laying some ground rules on how you like to spend part of you time

I agree, I live in the SF bay area part of the time, and in La Paz, MX the other part, and am always excited to go to Mexico City or Guadalajara and enjoy time at one of the nice cigar bars.

I think you and your buddies will have an awesome time, do check out both cigar bars if possible. You'll be treated like royalty.

It's possible they may even have the Edmundo Dantes Belicoso Conde, I recently had one in GDL in November.

Hahaha. I’m doing my best. But with an avg of an hour spent outside daily, I’m already on thin ice. Cigars are not her favorite activity for me lol.

? Dude, it will take time, but in time she'll know you need your relax time with cigars and cigar buddies.  I'd budget 2.5-3 hrs each visit to those cigar bars...
