Ryan
So, just before I went to Cuba for Christmas, mobile data got switched on for Cuban sim cards. It was being rolled out bit by bit, going on phone number, but seems to be widely available now. Strangely I've been told it will not work in phones sold for or in the US market but may work if location services are switch off in the phone. Anyway, for those with a Cuban sim card, next time you go to Cuba, here is how to get data on your phone. 4gB is $30. It's the best value plan available at the moment. It should easily last a week or two of email and some social media etc. 1. Open up your phone app. Dial *133# and press send 2. Choose 1 for Datos 3. Choose 3 Paquetes 4. Choose the amount of data you want 5. Press 1 to confirm 6. It tells you it is processing and then confirms. It takes 20 seconds altogether. Here is a sample speed. Certain websites still will not work, like online project management software I'm working with at the moment. But it is very handy. The only thing, with mobile data comes this. Like the rest of the world.
oliverdst
One of the main reasons I like Cuba is the unplugged thing but I confess it was very good to have an internet connection and talk to my wife and kid via WhatsApp last November.
