Sancho panza molinos.  2011

Choice was a sincere toss up between the SP and a Fonseca No1 which is certainly special to me and an all time favorite smoke.

Just wrapped up some digging around the house.  It’s been wet, and the mosquitos, they zoon...  This is a Box pass stick from this past summer. While I really enjoy the marca this is the First Molinos I’ve ever had.  Very light, flat wrapper with little to no sheen.  Well constructed.  Some slight give to the cigar overall. No discernible pre-light aroma, or it smells like Deep Woods “OFF!”.   Draw is a bit on the free side, but it’s no wind tunnel.

Initial light yields up some woody notes with moderate smoke.  Less than an inch in though and some floral aspect joins the woody notes with some cedar in the background. It’s starting to gain some depth to the flavor profile. Interestingly there’s nothing sweet about this stick so far.

Second third, maybe some ginger-spiciness, but otherwise unchanged from the first third. Good smoke, good flavor and a razor sharp burn.

Final third, the mosquitoes persist as does the initial flavor profile with some intermingling of the aforementioned ginger and cedar.  The Deep Woods “OFF!” Falls into the background and I realize that was me the whole time....  There’s an additional spiciness now.   Can’t lay my finger on the flavor, but the spiciness is there nonetheless.  At the band the flavor intensity kicked up considerably bringing a great finish to a fine, smooth afternoon smoke.

These would be a nice, mild and flavorful stick to have on hand, but alas I imagine there are really none to be had these days.
