Hot Takes

1. Who's the best modern quarterback?

Congratulations to Drew Brees on becoming the all-time leader in passing yards in NFL history. A magnificent achievement and he said in an interview yesterday that he feels like he could play till he's 45. I believe that Brees, Brady and Rogers all have a claim to the greatest quarterback title. Brees has the most yards, highest completion percentage and most 5000 yard seasons ( 5 out of the 9 in NFL history). Brady's accomplishments are well known with his 6 rings and 500 TD's. Rogers has the highest QBR in NFL history. Who's your pick?

2. Is the QB Sneak the most underrated play in football?

The QB sneak is 67/70 (95.7%) on 4th and 1 since 2016. I'm very surprised that we don't see this more often. The pats/Brady have mastered this art.

3. Browns Young Defensive Studs

I've been very impressed with the Browns overall but mostly with the young defense. Denzel Ward has been lights out good in the opening 5 weeks of of the season and should be in contention for DROY. Myles Garrett is the young star but is well supported by Ogunjobi & Ogbah. Schobert at linebacker and Peppers at Safety had the best games of their young careers against the Ravens.

4. Does an increase in points result in a better viewing experience?

The NFL is on pace to score 12,272 points this season, which would be more than 100 above last year's total of 11,220. That's a significant increase of 9.4%. Additionally, through 5 weeks 19 QB's are paccing 4000+ yards with 8 of them pacing 5000 yards (which as noted above is incredibly rare for anyone not names Drew Brees).

I think the browns vs ravens game was more exciting than completion after completion. The NFL has a clear agenda and vision for how they want the game to be played but will it put bum's on seats and couches?

5. Eagles in for Bell

With Jay Ajayi ruled out for the rest of the season the Eagles are reportedly chasing Le'Veon Bell or Lesean McCoy. With both teams asking for a steep price in return look for the Eagles to continue to run back Smallwood and find a cheaper option.

Cold Takes

1. I hate talking about the rules/refs each week

.......But anyone watching the Bills vs Titans saw Bill's DE Jerry Hughes let go of Titan's QB Marcus Mariota for fear of being penalized. Dak Prescott's amazing play for Tavon Austin would not have happened if JJ Watt could have smashed him under the old rules.

2. Alex Smith

That was a terrible QB performance yesterday (I should know I'm a bucs fan). Looked like he was seeing ghosts and throwing with his eye's closed. I could hear Ken pulling his hair out from the deck.

3. Goodbye Garrett

Jason Garrett is odds-on favorite to be 1st NFL Head coach fired this season after the Texans loss. Jerry Jones will be looking for the next yes man to replace him.

4. Cornerback Catastrophe

Patrick Peterson, Marcus Peters and Josh Norman are all in the top 10 in passer rating allowed this season. These guys have all been all-pro in the last 3 years. Let that sink in.

5. Giants release OT Erick Flowers

The former number 9 overall pick in the 2015 draft has been cut by the Giants. Could go down as one of the biggest non-QB busts this millennium. Some of the players taken after him include: Todd Gurley, Trae Waynes, Melvin Gordon and Marcus Peters.

Tampa Bay looking for a new defensive coordinator and El Pres has been quiet for the last day or so ... coincidence? :)
