I reckon that this would be relaxing.

I have no idea why, but the concept appeals to me. Then again my gumbiness in this area guarantees the loss of several fingers...which would take away from the cerebral relaxing nature of the project.

Does anyone whittle?

On camps I do but not recreationallly. It's usually because I need to make something to use such as a marshmallow stick, cooking pot holder or, on more than one occasion, cigar holder/ashtray.

No way. I will cut a finger off, almost guaranteed. I do collect custom knives though. With all the makers that have popped up, and how popular they have become in the last few years, I have a few really great knives.

I whittled a spoon once on a Stag Do (Bucks Night in Oz I believe) event. It was very enjoyable. I might get back into it, I quite fancy a home made wooden cigar rest.

What more perfect then than to take up the glorious gentleman’s hobby of fly tying. The perfect hobby for long smokes. AND the secret reward comes last: if you use your own flies, you catch more and BIGGER fish ? ?
