I love the comments on the trout video...."should not have released the non-native predator!...they wouldn't be here except for the greedy fishermen!!"

there are a small number of that view. mind you, but for the fishermen, it would not have been disturbed. good luck to them getting rid of trout from those streams. 

i'm all for ridding places of invasive species but that isn't going to happen with trout. i wonder if they realised the irony in the fact that the invasive trout were eating mice - another invasive species and i'd suggest to them that rodents do far more damage.

We have the same issue here in California. The only native species are coastal rainbows, golden and cutthroat trout. German browns and brook trout are introduced species and have definitely displaced the native trout. There has been a lot of conservation effort in the past 50 years to protect the goldens and cutthroats.

Fishermen are the only people who give a rats ass about what fish live in what stream. So the false outrage about ecosystems cracks me up.
