Not a lot of love for the Cohiba Robusto so far.

Very surprised.

Not so uncommon. Some people simply can't taste what others can. Physiological differences at play. Just the way you are built and it is not necessarily your fault. You are unlikely to ever get it.

Ask the crowd about a CORO  and a third will yell "Barabas".

It is the same with every cigar ;)

  1. Partagas Manduro No 1
  2. Cohiba Manduro 5 Genios
  3. Cohiba Manduro 5 Secretos
  4. Cohiba Manduro 5 Magicos
  5. Partagas D4

See the theme...

1-4 Just taste of dirt, and bitterness, i get none of the chocolate notes from these smokes, and my toes curl when i remember I have a couple of them still floating around in my collection. Oh, before anyone mentions it, I have had them both fresh and with 4 years on them. Still just a roll of nastiness IMHO

5 - I find these to be rather insipid, and my least favourite robusto!

During some recent online perusing, I turned a corner and stumbled across a box of Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios, priced at... $666. You're reading that correctly. Coincidence? I think not...

Typically, Robustos are not my favorite vitola. For me, the flavors just don’t come out the way they do in a CG or PC. On top of that, and I know it will sound weird, but something about the short, thick construction always reminds me of nubbing a cigar. The way the smoke is right up on my fingers from the start. I don’t get this experience with other vitolas.

Personally, I don’t think the CoRo is a terrible cigar, in fact, on occasion it can be pretty good, IF, in my experience, you get one from ‘08 or ‘13 or some other magical year. On the other hand, I’ve had Siglo vi from a half dozen different years and I never felt ripped off. The Siglo vi is consistently better and the size to price value is better in line. CoRo at $4-$500 a box just isn’t my idea of value which certainly detracts from my opinion of it.

Here's an imaginary nightmarish sampler. If such creatures were ever to roam the earth, may the Lord bestow mercy upon us all.

1. Cohiba Tres Petit Talisman Juicy Edition (sweetened bands)

2. Cohiba Maduro iNano 30 (30 mm length; customizable girth from 85-145 RG)

3. RG 88 "AA" (double A sized perfecto - new vitola - factory name Britanicas Maximus)

4. Montecristo Petit Petit No. 2 ER Pangaea (only ER available for all regions)

5. Punch Pink Prince of Tears XXL (EL)

And the only regular production left...

Hate!
SLR - Regios (void of flavor, totally bland, Guantanamera Cristales has more to offer!)
Cuaba - Exclusivos (funky cologne smell and plugged)
Vegas Robaina - Famosos (void of flavor, totally bland)
Bolivar - Belicosos Finos (plain strong tobacco)
Rafael Gonzalez - Panetelas Extra (95% plugged)

Love! (Rob, please don't ban me from the forum)
Monte Petit No. 2 Tubos (mini version has more flavor than its bigger brother)
Trinidad EL Short Robusto T (was one of the best when bought a box 8 years ago, still going strong)

I adore these smokes! Really are a reliable, tasty treat! Though the hate i am seeing explains why I have been able to pick boxes up with some decent dates on them

For me - Cuabas never fail in as far as offering a totally on-target and enjoyable Habana aroma and flavorful smoke! They've NEVER failed in such for me! :cigar:

Sold my lone box of RG88 as quickly as possibly, gave away most of my Noellas, and luckily only had a few singles of Mag 56.

The RG88 takes the cake, though - easily the worst release of the last 10 years and I’ve tried most of them.

Oh hell. I just bought a couple boxes on 24. I wonder if the ER '16 release is as bad as the regular 88s?? Oh well...they'll be resting for years anyhow. If they aren't quite there yet

There are cigars I systematically avoid (e.g. never had a Monte Open and won't chime in in the parroting here), so - the worst - I probably and hopefully never have smoked. In this regard this little list here might be a bit unfair, as these have been repeatedly poor sticks for me but perhaps not the crème of the worst to discover out there. :cowpoop:

1. HdM Epi de Luxe (what's the avail of that cigar?!!)
2. RyJ Regalías de Londres (2007, worst box I've ever owned, of an otherwise already mediocre cigar)
3. RA Belvederes (MM)
4. Party Maduro 1
And if I had to pick a 5th it would be the Punch SdO.2 EL 2013. Plain generic.

Mind you, all this coming behind - er, no, ahead of most JLP, LFDC and Quintero.... :P

Quintero Favoritos just terrible taste

Exactly my thoughts at first. Didn't touch them for a while and just recently got back to an aged one that turned out truly excellent. Give them 4-5 years. Still, my 'favorito' being the Brevas...

Imho JLP much better

1. SLR Regios - an absolutely horrible cigar, there s no taste at all, there is no aroma

2. H Upmann Connie A - a whole lot of nothing, very light, worst value on the market

3. RnJ Churchill - massive construction issues and tight draw

4. Bolivar Belicosos - underfilled, bad draw,  very underwhelming

If the purpose of this exercise is for me to read everyone else's responses and argue to myself about the merits of cigars they hate like a mental patient, it's working like a charm.

RA Extra just divides people. i am not sure there is a more "love them or hate them" cigar.
Mag 56?  I could move 500 boxes tomorrow

The Mag56 is beautiful to me. Hey to each his own.
