joeypots Posted May 14, 2018 Posted May 14, 2018 I’d been smoking Cuban Cigars for about 5 years in 2006. On the cigar boards there were reports that the Cuban cigar industry had been “cooking “ tobacco in order to make young cigars more approachable. I think there were some great cigars from that time. Monte #2 and ’06 RASS stand out. It was great to have such good cigars, my experience had been that prior years had bee lack luster. ’05 in particular, I think, produced some horrible tasting cigars that never came around. In 2013 the ’08 COROs were so good that I burned through them all except three that I put into tubes I had. This review is for the 24th cigar from the box. First half. So, It’s a good cigar. A little tangy, a little hay, it’s smooth and creamy with no harsh notes on the nose. First impression is that it may be too smooth, lacking the full body flavor of the cigar five years ago. But once it got going it has smooth power and a lovely aftertaste. Second half. It may be a tad under filled so if I don’t draw slowly it gets hot. The flavor is wonderful though it doesn’t have that thick mouth coating smoke the younger cigars had. Third half. Pretty dang good. What stands out is the fact that the cigar was pretty much the same at the end as it was at the beginning, except for more of a nicotine kick. Delicious through the nose at the very end. My only criticism is the fill. Just a tad tighter would have been better. All in all a satisfying cigar and I’ll give it a 90 rating for 90 minutes of cigar enjoyment. I thought I’d smoke a small cigar after but now I think not. the CORO was enough for this afternoon, and that’s high praise indeed. Are cigars from 2006 on aging well? I say yes. But i wasn’t around for the proverbial days before the cigar boom and I suspect those cigars, in people’s minds at least, will remain mythical, much like that big fish you cought 20 years ago gets just a little bigger every year. 4
