Popular Post cigaraholic Posted March 31, 2018 Popular Post Posted March 31, 2018 My first cigar smoking memory was thanks to my father on my first day smoking cigars. We were in Vancouver and I wanted to try a Cuban cigar, so my mother and I went to the tabaconist and I picked out a large selection, many different brands and sizes. Went back to the hotel and I smoked one, I know I smoked another after lunch, don’t remember what they were. Around 4:00 I thought I had plenty of time for another cigar before dinner and I reached for a Monte Especial. My father looked at me and said “your going to get sick”. Being not quite 16 I was a little scared but lit the cigar anyway. My mouth filled with gorgeous dark milk chocolate, carmel, roasted nuts and that cuban earthy flavor, like the best Snickers bar I’d ever tasted. I thought who the hell could get sick from this.... not me. I didn’t get sick and I’m sure I had a cigar after dinner...but I’ll never forget that Montecristo. Since the leaf change most Montes are more cocoa that chocolate to me with the occasional exception from a Sublimes. When I smoked my first GE it reminded me of what Montecristo used to taste like...so I went deep. I was going to have a nice vintage port with my cigar but a cigar smoking friend invited me to dinner, he said he’d found the 2 small bottles of cognac he’d hid for safe keeping that of course he couldn’t find. After dinner we lit the cigars and mine was just what I expected, earthy dark milk chocolate. I asked my friend how his was and he said it’s good but I could tell he wasn’t that excited. We switched cigars and he really liked mine, his was darker chocolate but not as creamy and the flavors were much less intense. So I told him to keep that cigar and I’d smoke the one he lit. Then he handed me the cognac, Frapin Extra, I started pouring some into the snifter and the perfume from the cognac was incredible...Chanel you can drink, so beautiful you don’t want to drink it just smell it! I held out as long as I could before sipping a little, it’s been a long time since I had such an incredible cognac. Adding the beautiful vanilla carmel honey earthy flavor of the cognac to the cigar transformed it from a 92 to a 97. I couldn’t help thinking an Esplendido would be the perfect cigar for this cognac...you can’t have everything every night ? I know my friend really enjoyed his cigar, he nubbed it while I was just getting to the last 3rd of mine. My cigar was good but I’ll never forget that cognac❤️ 5
TheMonk Posted April 2, 2018 Posted April 2, 2018 Nice job, and it seems that cognac was spectacular (could never warm up to cognacs myself, for some reason).
