CNY - Trinidad Topes EL 2016

On Christmas Day I enjoyed a few cigars, however the Trinidad Topes was certainly the highlight cigar of the day! I purchased this cigar from a 2016 EL sampler that was available on 24:24 a few months back and apparently I never wrote down the box code... This was the first of the two I received that I smoked and what a treat it was. The cigar had a dark maduro style wrapper with flawless construction (check out that ash!) and a perfect draw, sweet spices on the pre draw with an intoxicating aroma had me real excited to light up! The cigar did not disappoint once lit, medium bodied and medium strength throughout but 100% full flavored. Chocolate and cream came through from the get go followed by a few faint notes of roasted almonds in the beginning. The chocolate and cream flavor developed into more of a milk coffee flavor in the 2nd half, with the sweet spices coming through on the retro hale. The flavor profile reminded me more along the lines of a really good Monte and the only criticism I would have was that the last third got a little hot and bitter near the nub, but that could have been due to smoking too fast at the end as I was starting to get cold from being outside but didn't want to trash such a good cigar prematurely. Long story short, the cigar far exceeded expectations and being that I only have one left, a new purchase may be in my near future if I can get my hands on some!

I adore these smokes; a reliable ‘good time’ when the occasion calls for a special stick! Chocolate, creamy spice! Glad you liked it, and thanks for the review!

This is a great cigar. Haven’t had one in a while, but even young was very flavorful. Can’t wait to see how they mature
