So as Christmas approaches I want to buy a Christmas present for myself.  My limit is 500.  My wife want ls Botox so I said I want some cigars.  So my question is what would you buy.  5 boxes of hUpmann half coronas or a box of sir Winston or get a box the new Cohiba?  Also willl anyone be doing the same purchasing a box or two special for Christmas?

I wish that was the case.  My cigar budget is somewhat limited I try to buy cigars that are on clearance or the occasional splurge.  So this to me would be a big splurge.  I think of @piggy who always has good cigars that are aged.  That's my goal.  Regular production that smoke like a dream ten/fifteen years down the road.

Being more like @PigFish is everyone’s goal here :lol3:

Seriously though, I’m with you on wanting to always have a few boxes of nicely aged cigars in the humidor...trying to see the light at the end of that tunnel isn’t easy. I just had the first Sir Winston out of my 2016 box. It was good, damn good. Hard to imagine there will be any left in a few years, let alone 5 or 10. So you know what I would buy, assuming I could still find any. This year’s supply appears to be waning.

I hope to buy myself a nice X-mas box too. I am hoping to grab something that might be a stretch for me, financially, and my budget would be about the same. So yeah, Sir Winston. Trinidad Fundadores, Cohiba Lanceros.

If I can't swing one of those, maybe a less expensive box to age, medium to longer term like the 898 or a box of Double Coronas. Of course, then I'd have to include a box of PCs or something to smoke in the short term.

All solid choices.

I'm in the same boat right now. I'm on a slightly larger budget, but I'm looking for double coronas or rare things not normally available.

Bought my Christmas box in August, a box of Bolivar Coronas Gigante.

Had to buy it then, as they are gone now.

Get something to cherish and enjoy on special occasions, not for a price point or to fill a gap.

What is special to you?   ;)

I personally follow my rule of “minimizing chances of regret” when it comes to these one-and-done decisions.

So.... I would go for something I know I would enjoy instead of taking a flier on the new cohiba or anything unknown to me. This way I won’t regret having spent the money on something I may not like.

My Christmas box was a 10er of Montecristo No. 2.

Guess I play in a different league...

Excellent choice!

That's a special, legendary cigar. A great X-Mas treat.

Those are on my ‘shoulda, coulda’ list. Congrats on having the foresight to jump on them early. I thought they’d be around longer. They weren’t.

I look at it this way. It’s easy to spend a hundred bucks 5 times, but it’s much harder to justify 500 for a single box so buy the Sir Winstons. You’re gonna buy the half Coronas when you need them anyway.

So in the interest of saving a few bucks I have two choices I have not had either cigar.   But a box of Connie1s or Hoyo de Monte epi 2?  Opinions?

@Wertman I personally would buy a variety of half boxes with a portion of my Christmas fund, nice way to get a hold of a nice variety and also allow you to try some things you might have not gotten the chance. Do you prefer a mild, medium, or full bodied smoke?

I've really enjoy both, but Hoyo de Monterrey is probably my favourite marca and the Epicure No .2 will always hold a special place in my heart, so I'm always biased towards that stick.

I say splurge as long as you will not regret the amount you spend. Make the buy something special. I look forward to doing just that at Christmas, birthdays, & special life events. Every time you light one of them up you appreciate that moment & often the memory.

Your right though about getting the best you can afford and have them at special times.  I don't get to smoke much anyway.  Maybe one every month or so.

If you don’t smoke often you’ll inevitably have some nice aged cigars down the line, so pick something that will age well
