I've never really enjoyed smoking outside in cold weather - first because I don't like my smoking hand freezing, and second and more importantly because I've always felt

that drawing cold dry air through a warm ember has a detrimental effect on flavor.

No scientific backing, but just a personal observation.

This past week, I've smoked two cigars that I consider to be very flavorful - both were very flat and flavorless, plus my smoking hand froze off.

I know, smoke inside, or move to a warmer clime (I wish!). Anyone else?

Tropical/ Sub-tropical/Florida memebers, 50'F is NOT cold.

There are so many things that go into the cigar smoking experience.. Cold destroys most of it. In the winter I like to take my cigars inside where it is nice and warm. In the summer I avoid smoking on windy days. That also seems to degrade the experience.

very hard for us to comment but i must admit that i actually prefer smoking in winter. then again, there has not been a winter's day here on the coast when at some stage it has not been possible to wear anything but a t-shirt and shorts, though it can get quite chilly at night, mid-winter.

for me, nothing better than a smoke on a mild to cool winter's day up at fraser.

before you start getting the wrong idea about our climate being perfect, i should mention that it was only a few years ago that during one winter we had at least three days when there were a few clouds - just small fluffy ones - that could be seen on the horizon. terrible year, that one.

I agree Colt45. I just torched a Monty #2 on saturday in the low 40's. Mind you, I really had no intention of doing so, but after a fine meal of grilled pork chops, puerto rican rice (rice with pigeon peas), salad and a homemade coconut cream pie, I felt the need for some nicotine.

Must say the Monty came through like a champ! The flavors were all there: hints of coffee, chocolat and a touch of spice. I agree with the freezing hand action: that is no fun. But, it did provide me with 50 minutes of pleasure... and a frozen bum! All in all I enjoyed the smoke.

Thanks Ken, I feel much better now.

Geneva, I wish it had been in the 40s. I was out in about 30' temps both

times, even though I know better. A Monte #2 was one of my picks as well,

but I feel like I wasted it.

I hate smoking in the cold. Since I smoke in my garage, I huddle next to my LP space heater. Works pretty good. In the winter it get really dry in Colorado so you end up with a lot of split wrappers.

I do not like to be cold and prefer smoking when every thing around me is ideal, but that's rare. I have had the same opinion that cold kills flavor but I am rethinking that.

This last deer season i was on a paid hunt and there were no deer to shoot. I decided to go ahead and smoke while hunting(major rule violation) and lit a Cohiba SR Corona. WOW it was stunning!!!!!!!! Nineteen degrees and a breeze of about 10-15. I was behind a large oak tree and the wind would swirl around in a perfect fasion.

I could care less about shooting a stupid deer- Hunt salvaged.

Ideal- indoors no wind.

Here in NY, we have the same situation . I try to run to the nearest cigar bar or to the nearest brother of the leaf for a quick smoke
