I dunno. Maybe that was the point of the exercise. OK that suggests a whole different poll I'd like to see: "Pick the flavors that you can discern, and want to, but seldom do." Which is another way of asking: What blend elements does Cuba seem to be sparse on? For me it would probably be Grains, and Cream.
El Hoze Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Great thread. I checked more than I would have thought. I second the manure one, amazing the amount of money I spend in search of cigars that I'd describe as smelling like manure. I also occasionally pick up what smells to me exactly like Catholic church incense (aka frankincense) which I believe is some form of a tree resin. I have to be in the mood for it but I love it. In get it in some Boli CG on a fairly regular basis. But the cigar that I find it most in are San Cristobal Mercaderes, though they're not in the normal line-up. Those cigars smell exactly like a Catholic church to me. And for me taste is heavily a smell thing w cigars.

Yes - I'm not exactly sure how RA meant it, but I read it as flavors I find most common as opposed to all the flavors I'm actually able to detect.

Well there was an emphasis on "flavors that you encounter on a regular basis" but, in the literal interpretation, that just becomes (assuming you believe consistent profiles actually exist) simply a survey on what cigars you smoke, not how your palate works or even what palette (see what I did there) you think Habanos offer . . . In other words, maybe I only encounter Wood on a regular basis, but then again, maybe I only smoke HU on a regular basis too . . . What is that telling us then? Not much. Maybe I rarely encounter Grass -- but that's only because I can afford Cohibas 6x per year -- though I encounter Grass every single time I smoke one . . . . So if I only smoke 6 Cohiba a year, but get Grass every time, does that count?? Damn Rob and his totally ambiguous social experiments!!!

Cocoa is a tough one for me. I taste the note, it just isn't what I would call "cocoa". Most of the "taste" comes through a slight retro hale for me. I don't like reading descriptions before I smoke a cigar. I either convince myself I can taste what is described or feel I'm missing out if I don't. I'll read about it afterwards to compare my impression with that of reviewer.
