Hi Team,

I'm relatively new to cigar smoking having just fallen into the hobby as a result of a trip to Cuba. There is just something relaxing about sitting back and smoking a cigar, pontificating about the world at large.

On the trip I managed to try the following cigars:

  • Cohiba Esplendido (My Favourite of the bunch)
  • Romeo Y Juliet Churchill
  • Montecristo No 2

I'm now looking to learn more about cuban cigars in general. Whats the difference in brands ? Whats the difference in sizes? Do different sizes = different flavours ? All these questions and more I hope to learn the answers to in this forum.

Off the bat one question I do have though, is there a 'best' beginners humidor I should be looking for ? Given the cost of the hobby I can't envisage buying more then a box right now, so I was thinking a 50 stick size should be sufficient. Will use the search function but thought it didn't hurt to ask here.

welcome. not a bad set to kick off with.

my thoughts would be that despite what you might think now, you will very quickly fill a humidor that small and be looking for another. i'd go bigger.

Welcome to FoH!!!

I agree with Ken as well. I honestly thought a 100c humidor would do me just fine. Now its full and I have also opened an Online Humidor Account with FoH. If you think you need a 50c humidor....times that by 3 and hopefully that would last you at least a couple of years.

We also hold regular FoH catch ups by the way. Hope to see you there :)

All the best,

Luca

Don't bother with a humidor. Get yourself an airtight 30L plastic tub. If you outgrow it, you can always use it as a dry box, or something else. When you start buying boxes, upgrade to a 100L airtight box.

Welcome to FOH! I'll tell you this, buy bigger than you think you'll use. I know you will need bigger than a 50ct very quickly, like your first box buy. Look into coolers or plastic tubs that seal very well. These are much cheaper than any humidor and much less trouble.

Thanks for all the recommendations on going for a bigger size and skipping over the proper humidor for now. Sounds like a good option to have more money for cigars ?

Look forward to learning more about the meet ups and hopefully making it out there to one or two.

Welcome!

Famous last words...  Buy something at least twice as big as you think you need/want.  You be thankful later.  Search for "coolerdor".  You're welcome!  B)

Welcome Hockey

+1 on the advice above. Once you start landing on the cigars you like you'll want to buy boxes. Even with 5 packs or 10s you wish you had more room pretty quickly.

Next step for me was researching a coolador.
