guilow Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I am considering a box of Epi #1s. However, I'm not really wanting a "very light" cigar and I'm reading mixed reviews on them. Some say they are REALLY light (much, much lighter than the Epi 2 - which I like). Other reviews say they are "Medium". I would be OK with "medium". So, I thought I'd ask you guys to compare it to a Juan Lopez Sel. #1. I consider those to be very light cigars. I'm just finishing up a box of them so they are fresh on my mind. I want to replace my next box with something a bit stronger. How does the Epi #1 compare to that cigar?
guilow Posted January 6, 2006 Author Posted January 6, 2006 » Get the Epi 1's. » » Hey El Prez Deux! Good you hear from ya.
n2advnture Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I like the Epi #1s better than the JLs but they are both great smokes, just different flavor profiles.
habanohal Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 A good cigar but my tastes say they are on the lighter side. For a bit more zing go for Epic 2s
shrink Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Guilow: I am an Epi #1 smoker. Compared to the half dozen or so Juan Lopez #1 I have smoked, the HdM have more body, spice and complexity. I have both an '02 box and an '04 box. The older ones are milder, smoother, and more floral. A great morning or after lunch smoke. The younger ones are pretty spicy, and open with a bang. See Rob's review in the cigar section, it's spot on!
Ken Gargett Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 don't smoke a lot of either but my thoughts would be that this last thought is just that, spot on.
DocRKS Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I prefer the Epi 1 to the JL Sel 1- have found them to be a more complex and flavorful smoke experience and a better constructed cigar.
hagzo Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 the epi 1 is a great smoke and has the added bonus of being ready to smoke with no aging and rarely suffers from plugging Keith
guilow Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 Thanks guys. Everyone seems to be in favor of the Epi #1s.
ironman Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 » Thanks guys. Everyone seems to be in favor of the Epi #1s. Absolutely love the Epi 1's!!!! You won't regret it!!
raney Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I just picked up a box from 05 - I've smoked 2 so far, and I would say definitely medium compared to the half-dozen or so JL#1's I've smoked. Very happy with these.
guilow Posted January 16, 2006 Author Posted January 16, 2006 I just picked up some EPI#1s to sample. We'll see......
El Presidente Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Epicure 1's are Medium and fuller than the Juan Lopez Seleccion No 1. I enjoy both but for my flavour profile I prefer the JL S1 in part because our climate here is Stinking hot right now. A lighter complex cigar just works a little better IMHO. Get me into winter and no doubt i will change my mind.
The Privateer Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I find that the JL1s are more subtle yet also more complex and refined than the Epi1s. To my palate, they also have a certain alluring sweet-savoury characteristic in the first half that the Epi1 lacks.
