Ken Gargett Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 for those not born this century (or thereabouts), many will know the song 'this is my song', a huge hit for petula clark. just discovered it was written by charlie chaplin - had no idea he was also a songwriter. and apparently, he wrote it for al jolson and when he was told that jolson was dead, he refused to believe it and thought that this was a ploy by jolson to avoid singing the song. he had to be shown a photo of jolson's tombstone to be convinced. anyway, petula clark was a neighbour at the time so he gave it to her. isn't your life so much richer for knowing that? 4
JohnS Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Charlie Chaplin and Clint Eastwood, two great filmmakers who also worked hard on their own music for their films. Some people are just multi-talented!
jazzboypro Posted May 1, 2017 Posted May 1, 2017 Chaplin also composed the music of "Smile" another huge classic.
