Have a wonderful Pesach/Passover everyone!

And from a post on Facebook just now...

A few days before Passover a rabbi was walking home when he noticed his shamos walking ahead of him. The rabbi hurried to catch up as he had some important matters to discuss. Much to his dismay, the rabbi saw that the shamos had entered a Chinese restaurant. The rabbi couldn't believe his eyes. He looked again and saw the shamos pointing to the menu and talking to the waiter. He looked again and saw the waiter deliver a tray of food to the shamos. Then he saw the shamos take the chop sticks and start eating a traif meal, including shrimp.

The rabbi could no longer contain himself. He burst into the restaurant and said, "Moshe, what are you doing?"

Moshe looked up and said to the rabbi, "I don't understand."

The rabbi said, "I just saw you, Moshe, my most holy shamos, with all this traif food!"

Moshe said, "Rabbi, did you see me come into this Restaurant?"

"Yes, I did," replied the Rabbi.

"Did you see me order the food?"

"Yes, I did" said the rabbi.

"Did you see me eat the food?"

"Of course I did!!! Why do you think I barged in here?"

"Well, then," said Moshe, "I don't see the problem. It was all done under rabbinical supervision!"

I love it Lisa.I will tell that to my DIL when My wife and I go to the Seder Dinner tomorrow night

One strange thing there, never heard of a guy being called a shamos? Must be a more religious or modern thing. Beats me.

Shamos is the rabbi's right hand man. That term, from what I understand, was used in 18th and 19th century eastern Europe mostly. If I am not mistaken, it is the precursor to the more modern gabbai.

Thank you and Happy Passover Shlomo. A Shamos is the head candle on a menorah to me.

But it's a good joke :D

Had our Seder on Sunday.  My aunt is making them too left wing and my questions weren't taken as seriously as they should've.  It's Passover after all.

One major one was her inclusion of same sex marriage be persecuted today in relation to Jews of Egypt.  I agree this is persecution, but the Torah & Talmud are pretty clear on their stance on same sex relations.  She went to this new Rabbis' rulings and the Torah is a "living document up for re-interpretation".  I thought since this is from God; it's pretty darn clear the Lord's word & it should be taken face value (assuming you ascribe to it)...  I am not very religious at all, and think people should be able to have relations as they see it fit, but marriage is a "religious ideal" and we are talking about from a Jewish perspective since it is Passover...  I was the lone voice of 13 at the table...  She went on to rant every political topic she is for or against and tie it back to Exodus.

My aunt is very into modern Judaism and I am friends with a few Orthodox Rabbi's, so I use that perspective as fuel to the fire...

We are not religious at all. More like hey, family dinner, good food, let's remember the movie "The Ten Commandments" with these books. Some family members have their more traditional Seder the night before.

But honestly, food is better with us  :-)
