So I am sitting here smoking a SLR Pacifico from 2009 to see how they are progressing and out of nowhere I get four draws where the retro is all Peach and Cream. I have never had this before, or at least this obvious of a peach note. Its very odd because there were zero "fruity" or sweet notes the entire cigar, and now with it almost to the nub I can confidently say I don't think there will be anymore. Anyone ever experience this flavor? Any cigar recommendations that might carry notes like this?

Side note, I don't think these are ready to consume yet, at least for my taste. I have younger sticks smoking much better. It was all wood, vanilla, cream and that glimpse of a peach note. But the last third was harsh, and completely uncharacteristic of the first two thirds.

Noticing a good bit of smokes I have seem to have a terrible last 1/3.  Guess they just need more time

The obvious one that comes to mind is the Magnum 50 - tons of those stone fruit notes. I heard the SLR DC does as well but haven't tried one yet.

SLR DC is much more apricot than peach.

interesting that peaches and cream note. from a wine perspective, i remember that it used to be the absolute definitive indicator of leflaive chevalier montrachet from the early 80s, before premox stuffed things. and those wines were glorious.

I had kind of dismissed the cigar and was doing some work on the laptop, it was so noticeable that I completely stopped what I was doing and though "is that seriously what I just tasted", and the next few draws were the same. I can only hope I get to experience that again in the next one I smoke.

I do need to grab a box of the SLR DC, I have heard only good things. I do enjoy the apricot flavors I have encountered from time to time in cigars.

RASCC.  Most peach of any cigar out there.  6 months down it really delivers.  Sometimes it's really there and sometimes it's a background taste. I can't distinguish peach and apricot like Ken (not being negative I applaud your refined palate!), but almost every single one I've smoked over last 2 years has been Peach jam to me.  This is my favorite minutos by a landslide right now.  Sometimes they have a strong nic kick.  Have smoked 2.5 boxes in last 6 months.  Love them.  Get some if you don't have any.

i would argue that if you are picking peach characters in a smoke then you can indeed distinguish and you have a better palate than you give yourself credit for.

Doing a search on the video review notes, only @Ken Gargett has found peaches and cream.  He's mentioned it 4 times:

  • Cohiba 1966 (EL 2011) -- "peaches and cream; 5 puffs and I've ordered a box"
  • Cohiba Robusto (MUO MAY 14) -- "cream, silk, honey, organge rinds, peaches and cream"
  • Cohiba Siglo IV (EPR OCT 08) -- "almost a peaches and cream character"
  • Ramon Allones Estupendos (ER 2006) -- "a distant note of peaches and cream"

chalk one up to the good guys! always said ayala has tarmac for tastebuds.

what is interesting is that three of them are cohibas - perhaps a cohiba character we have been neglecting?

on another note, if i may ask a favour, are you able to give me the date of that cohiba 1966 review?

12 years and one spelling error in my rush to get back to something worthwhile.

if we all take a moment, that sound in the background is thin ice cracking. i look forward to assisting you in these matters many many times ahead.

I remember the 1966 starting out with peaches and cream but it fading. From my notes I got very strong peaches and cream from the second half of aged Upmann #1 (lonsdales)

It seems rare, certainly different to the stone fruit you get commonly in Mag 50s, SLR
