BellevilleMXZ Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 Noob here , so still learning. From what I have been reading, splits seem to happen when going from storing temp to cooler temps/humidity......remember noob here. I have smoked 3 somewhat fresh(that's a whole other story.....jealous of u guys that have a large stock) CC , over the last 3 weeks. All have had somewhat small splits ,, as I smoke in a cool garage as I'm from cool at this time Ontario Canada. Is this somewhat normal? Wish I would have found this site a year ago.
lafabrica Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 welcome to FOH. your cigars are overhumidified (still). can you describe how "fresh" and your storage conditions? i live in south florida. i recently was in a city for a week that the temps were 0 degrees F or below every minute i was there. loved the change, including the 6000'+ elevation. i took 20 cigars with me (mostly marevas and corona gordas) in an airtight container with a 62% boveda. this was in my checked luggage. upon arrival, i had an evening smoke outside (light snow). no problems. and starting the first night, i placed 3 cigars per day on the desk and "dryboxed" them for the next days enjoyment. i kept the hotel room at 74 degrees F. no issues. in fact, i've noticed that smoking in the freezing weather increases my senses and the cigars taste better - huge difference. not that i want to live there full time, but a positive for sure...

Well these are fresh from Cuba , not quite 2 months ago. Dates on boxes range a bit, but most slightly less than yr old. I did have them at 70%, but after tons of reading here, I am lowering that. But they are still at 70%.
Blazer Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I usually put them outside for 30-minutes before lighting them and that seems to help, but not totally, eliminate the splits. 1

BellevilleMXZ Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Thanks guys I'll see how it goes as the RH drops on them.
