Cdn Prime Minister Trudeau was in Havana the week we were all there. I had hoped to at least catch a glimpse but no such luck.  He was, however, known to be staying at the Melia Cohiba, the same hotel the Partagas Festival Opening night Gala was held in.  While lining up to enter, some people did spot Trudeau's wife Sophie on her way in/out of the lobby.

After getting back to Canada, I did check the local news to see what Trudeau got up to in Havana.  Then I found this hilarious note in one of the articles in the Toronto Star, usually a half-way decent rag, as far as newspapers go...

"Today’s Trudeau couple stayed in a modern waterfront hotel flush with American tourists, where the tobacco industry commandeered the club. Cigar smoke billowed out the door where tobacco executives had paid for the private privilege of a show by the world-renowned Buena Vista Social Club."

Welp....I guess I'm a tobacco executive.  All this time, I thought I was just a friend of Partagas! LOL:rotfl:

Thanks Toronto Star. I guess this navy stuff was never my true calling in the end.  Tobacco Executive!  Habanos SA, here I come!

So close but no cigars.  He also came by the Commodoro during the beach day lunch in a fleet of black Mercedes and mucho security but despite a request to his staff to meet with the Canadian contingent slipped out the back door and left for his next stop. Might have had something to do with everyone carrying a glass of rum and puffing stogies.
