This RyJ is one of my last "UNK/Singles" and given it's RyJ review time I thought I'd fire it up and see what I thought of it.  It is my 1st Exhibition No4.

As I have found with most of the singles I've ever smoked the pre-light aroma is almost non existent.  There's power in a group, and my nose isn't refined enough to pick up a lot of scent and nuance from a sole example that has not been resting with its brothers prior to my enjoyment.    Were I a labrador.....

But I digress...

I will say this example felt well rolled, had a nice light walnut brown color, a nice wrapper and was "free and easy on the draw".  Just how I like them.

Fired it up and got a blast of a rather acid taste accompanied by a cedar blast that gave way to just cedar after a couple of puffs.

Throughout the first 3rd about the only taste I could pick up was cedar....   Burn ran off at a 30° angle or so and I touched it up at the 1/3 mark.  It stayed perfect from there on. Second 3rd was more cedar.  It was pleasant for sure, but there wasn't much else until I made the last 3rd.

For the last third the predominant aroma and taste was, well...  CEDAR.  Cigar held its grey ash beautifuly.  No sharing of bits and pieces with my shirt, a trait in a cigar of which I am always grateful.  There was a very subtle aroma of over-roasted almonds as I came to the end.

I'm anxious to try one of those from the box acclimatizing in the humidor  as I certainly expected a different profile from this smoke.   Don't get me wrong:  I did enjoy it very much, but reading other's reviews had me expecting something very different.

I'll get to them.  Eventually.

Cheers!

You know, I think El Prez is right: That touch of rosado in the wrapper makes it a different cigar. I would like to try a one or two year old one with that rosado wrapper to compare.

Think that's what is in the humi now, Hurltim.    More a mahogany color.  Darker with some definite redness to the wrapper.
