Joker Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Tried my first Fonesca (Kadet I think) 15 years ago and wasn't too impressed. However I got hold of a fiver of the Fonesca No1 earlier this year and was so impressed ordered a box from signor Rob, love the Lonsdale format. Whisky is my usual pairing when I smoke, but tonight I thought I would enjoy some Matusalem 15yr Gran-Reserva rum. It's like drinking a luscious fruit cake but not too sweet. about the only rum I enjoy. On with the review: Good construction with slight give and uniform wrapper. Cold draw - black tea. Light her up, and starts off with slight white pepper and herbaceous flavours, good volume of smoke. After 1/3, good burn and just under medium strength 2/3 - spice gone and develops some sweet undertones. Not overly complex but enjoyable Last third - void of much flavour, either the flavours are very subtle, or my palette is shot!! Maybe they are still too young, hopefully they develop a little - always an optimist 2
westg Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Nice review Tony ...and that is a nice rum ... that ashtray looks familiar 1
alloy Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Thanks for the review. I just bought a box of these off of a 24:24. I usually have a lime water while I smoke. I find that rums or scotches tend to overpower the taste of the cigar for me. 1
